H.G. Fenton Earns Record Six National Gold Nugget Awards, Including Top Honor for Tower24 Ponto Beach
H.G. Fenton Company earned a record six national Gold Nugget Awards at the 2026 Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC), including the Grand Award for Best Built-for-Rent Community Product Design for Tower24 Ponto Beach in Carlsbad, Calif., less than a year after the community opened. The recognition underscores H.G. Fenton’s long-standing commitment to creating thoughtfully designed rental communities that respond to place, support resident lifestyle and strengthen connections to San Diego County neighborhoods.
Presented annually by the California Building Industry Association (CBIA) and the PCBC, the Gold Nugget Awards are the nation’s oldest and most respected design awards, honoring those who set the standard for innovation across the globe, improve communities, and address hyper-local challenges through architectural design, planning, and development. This year’s competition drew more than 800 entries across 67 categories, with Grand Awards representing the highest distinction in each category.
H.G. Fenton developed Tower24 in partnership with design firm KTGY to redefine the rental model through a coastal community that feels more like a neighborhood of homes. The Carlsbad community combines coastal-inspired architecture, pedestrian-oriented planning and homes that offer the comfort, privacy and lifestyle of single-family living while encouraging outdoor living, neighbor connection and access to the surrounding area.
Tower24 received one Gold Nugget Grand Award and four Merit Awards, including Best Multi-Family Housing Community (Under 20 Units/Acre), Best Infill Community, Best Built-For-Rent Community Plan and Multi-Family Community of the Year.
H.G. Fenton also earned a Merit Award for Best Interior Design of a Multi-Family Community – Common Spaces/Areas for Amp30 North Park, a vibrant, music-inspired modern apartment community designed in partnership with Architects Orange (AO). The award celebrates Amp30’s purposeful gathering spaces that reflect the character and creativity of San Diego’s North Park neighborhood.
“Our approach to development is to start every project by listening,” said Dave Gatske, H.G. Fenton Company Vice President of Development & Policy. “Tower24 reflects what we heard about how people want to experience coastal living — with walkability, privacy, connection to the outdoors and a stronger link to the surrounding community. This recognition validates a development approach centered on designing with intention and creating communities that feel authentic to the neighborhoods they are part of.”
This year’s honors extend more than a decade of national Gold Nugget recognition for H.G. Fenton. Since 2015, the company has earned 13 Gold Nugget Awards, including two Grand Awards and 11 Merit Awards. Previous award-winning communities include Vici Luxury Rentals, EVOC Hillcrest and Urbana.
