We continually develop new programs and communities that support sustainability and contribute to the well-being of our environment.

Our earth-friendly practices and energy-efficient technologies include: 

• Using environmentally-friendly building materials and practices 
• Installing drought-tolerant landscape and “smart” irrigation systems 
• Upgrading our commercial properties with energy-efficient LED lighting 
• Solar panels at our corporate office (powering 90% of energy used in the building) 
• Solar panels at 15 of our residential communities and 45 commercial buildings, with plans to add solar to 36 additional buildings by the end of 2025
• Electric Vehicle charging stations available at all of our residential communities 
• Replacing the use of bottled water at our corporate office with filtered water dispensers 

H.G. Fenton supports programs that increase opportunities and resources for San Diego’s future leaders to pursue their dreams and make a difference in our community:

Junior Achievement of San Diego County delivers immersive learning experiences in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.

• JA BizTown gives fifth graders the chance to take on grown-up tasks in a 10,000 sq. ft. mini-city, such as shopping, getting health check-ups —even collecting rent from other businesses in the H.G. Fenton shop!
• JA Finance Park takes high school students through an adult life simulation where they learn how to budget, save, and spend for themselves and their virtual families, providing foundational knowledge and skills to make smart lifelong financial decisions.

North County Trade Tech High School brings cutting-edge career technical education into the classroom, ensuring that students are prepared for success in life, college, and high-skill, high-wage professions. Trade Tech offers multiple pathways to success for students in grades 9-12.

As a company with a long history of innovation, we are excited to help bring the ideas of our community’s brightest young minds to life.

Zahn Innovation Platform Launchpad at SDSU helps students, faculty, and researchers launch a startup from an early-stage idea. This experience complements their SDSU education and launches successful startups in our community.

The H.G. Fenton Company Idea Lab provides a range of machines and resources that student interns use to build, test, and iterate products to support ZIP Launchpad ideas.

H.G. Fenton also creates opportunities for employees to make a difference and shape their impact on our community in ways that are meaningful to them:

• Each employee receives annual funds to donate to charitable causes of their choice.
• Paid Time off includes eight “Volunteer” hours per year.
• We frequently join community events, including beach clean-ups, holiday toy drives and charity fundraisers.
